Is type 1 diabetes in your family?
Are you aged between 4 and 30? Are you interested in finding out if you are at risk of developing type 1 diabetes? Visit www.stopdiabetes.com.au or call 1300 138 712 and register for your free blood test today! INIT II is a clinical trial that aims to prevent type 1 diabetes in children and young adults at risk of the disease. Our mission is to find out if type 1 diabetes can be prevented.

We need to screen 12,000 people in order to find the 120 people we need to participate in the trial. Screening involves a simple, free blood test at a local pathology centre.
Participants who are considered at risk of developing type 1 diabetes in the future will be eligible to participate. Visit the website for more information on what participation involves.

Water-Based Exercise Program for Type 2 Diabetes

Have you had type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months?
Are you managing your diabetes with your diet and/or oral medication, but not taking insulin?
Do you want to get fit in a fun, fully supervised group exercise program?

Curtin University is conducting a study looking at the effects of an 8 week water-based exercise program on fitness, blood vessel health and cardiovascular risk profiles to investigate the benefits of water-based exercise for people with type 2 diabetes. Training for the exercise group will take place in a pool at UWA three mornings per week. Participants will be provided with an exercise program tailored to their ability and receive a detailed analysis of their health. Control group participants also wanted!

Feeding in Young Children (Diabetes Project)
Do you have a child aged 18 months to 9 years with type 1 diabetes?

Roslyn Pay (Credentialled Diabetes Educator) really needs your help!

Roslyn is comparing the feeding and mealtime parenting of children 18 months to 9 years with type 1 diabetes to children who do not have diabetes. The research involves completing an online questionnaire including questions about family background, feeding and parenting. The University of Notre Dame Australia
UNDA is conducting a study to assess the effectiveness of water based exercise in comparison to land based exercise in the acute response of exercise in blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The participants will be expected to undertake two one hour exercise sessions, one in the hydrotherapy pool and one in the exercise physiology clinic, one week apart.

Has your GP said to you the benefits of exercise in order to control your BGL?
It is well established that water based exercises improve cardiovascular fitness and strength in adults. However it is not known yet if water based exercises improve blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients.

• Are you between 40 and 60 years old?
• Have you been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the last 2-6 years?.
