Making a Will

Your bequest to Diabetes WA can take a number of forms: a percentage of the value of your estate, a specified amount of money or item of property, or the residue of your estate once family and other beneficiaries have been provided for. Whatever you decide, we strongly recommend that a solicitor or trustee company help you prepare your will to ensure that it is valid and carries out your final wishes.

Your will is a very personal document and naturally you will want to keep its contents confidential. However, if you have already made provision for Diabetes WA, or are considering a bequest, please email fundraising@diabeteswa.com.au. This will give us an opportunity to thank you personally and recognise your generosity.

There are three types of bequests:

Residuary Bequest
This is simply a gift of whatever is left of your estate (or a percentage thereof) after all your other gifts, taxes and debts have been fulfilled.

Suggested wording for a residuary bequest to Diabetes WA is as follows:

I give, devise and bequeath to Diabetes WA free from all duties, the following ______ percentage OR the remainder of my estate and direct that the receipt of the Executive Director for the time being will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.

Pecuniary Bequest
This refers to leaving a gift of a set dollar amount determined by you at the time of drawing up, or altering your will.

Suggested wording for a pecuniary bequest to Diabetes WA is as follows:

I give devise and bequeath to Diabetes WA free from all duties, the following $______ amount and direct that the receipt of the Executive Director for the time being will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.

Specific bequest
This is leaving a gift of an item of specific value such as property, art works or jewelery to be passed on to Diabetes WA to generate funds.

Suggested wording for a specific bequest to Diabetes WA is as follows:

I give, devise and bequeath to Diabetes WA free from all duties, the following _________ item/s and direct that the receipt of the Executive Director for the time being will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.
