HBF Run for a Reason

14 December 2009

An exciting new community event is being held on the 23rd of May in 2010, which will give West Australians an opportunity to achieve personal fitness goals, enjoy a fun day out and support local charities. The HBF Run for a Reason will bring together people of all ages and levels of fitness for a timed run and walk event of 14km and 4.5km distances.

Through the event, HBF is encouraging participants to fundraise for a cause, choosing from six of the West Australian charities that are leading the way in reducing the prevalence of chronic disease. These are: Diabetes WA; the Arthritis Foundation WA; Asthma Foundation WA; Cancer Council WA; Heart Foundation WA and Lifeline. The event aims to fundraise over $200,000 for these charities in 2010.

The HBF Run for a Reason course will start and finish in the Perth CBD, covering a scenic flat course around the river. The longer category will offer the unique opportunity to run or walk over sections of the Kwinana, Mitchell and Graham Farmer Freeways, including a notable passage through the Northbridge Tunnel. All participants will get the rare opportunity of finishing the event by running onto the iconic WACA ground. At the conclusion of the event, participants can sit back and relax at the WACA and enjoy food, drink and entertainment.

HBF are expecting over 7,500 participants to take part in the inaugural event and are aiming to build to over 20,000 people within five years, making it one of the biggest events of its kind in West Australia. HBF Run for a Reason is not targeted at elite athletes so all West Australians are encouraged to take part. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a day of physical activity at your own pace, while raising vital funds for Diabetes WA.

A suite of training materials are now available to assist in preparing for the event, including training guides, running and stretching information, nutrition, footcare and mental preparation guides. To find out more about the event or to register, visit www.hbfrun.com or any HBF Branch.

HBF Run for a Reason is presented by The West Australian who are the official print and online supporters of the event. The event is also supported by radio stations 96FM and 6PR.
