We are very pleased to report that Diabetes WA's Aboriginal Health team was recently announced the national winner of the arts and health category of the Creative Partnerships Australia Award for its partnership with Desert Feet Music.
The Desert Feet Tour provides no-cost alcohol-free community concerts and music education workshops to remote communities in Western Australia, inspiring children with help from talented Aboriginal musicians.
Since 2010 Diabetes WA has travelled with the Desert Feet team, delivering interactive healthy lifestyle activities such as cooking and storytelling and developing a diabetes prevention storybook.
The awards (previously the AbaF Awards) celebrate and honour successful and innovative relationships between arts, business and donors. They acknowledge best practise, and winning the arts and health category helps to raise our profile within business and the community arts sector.
In September, winners were announces across all states and territories, and the winners at each state event then went into the national awards at an event held at Government House in Canberra on 19 November 2013. We were very proud and delighted to be acknowledged at the award ceremony - an event that was attended by 500 people.
