Our health promotion team has two primary functions:
- Promote the prevention of diabetes
- Promote the seriousness of diabetes
In order to be able to get these messages across effectively, we run several successful programs and campaigns aimed at the WA community.

In July 2005, Diabetes Australia launched a national public awareness campaign called Don't Ignore Diabetes. The campaign is a component of the national diabetes action plan to increase community awareness and understanding of type 2 diabetes.
The long term initiatives of the national diabetes action plan include:
- Increase community awareness of diabetes as a serious medical condition.
- Increase community awareness of type 2 diabetes risk factors.
- Increase community understanding that type 2 diabetes can be prevented through appropriate lifestyle changes.
- Increase community access to quality information, support and services that have a type 2 diabetes prevention focus.
