The 2019 Western Australian Footcare Annual Meeting is underway with industry professionals coming together to discuss multidisciplinary approaches to care for people living with foot complications from diabetes.
Held on Thursday 12 December at Royal Perth Hospital(RPH), Day 1 featured lectures, topical debates and live clinical demonstrations of emerging techniques and vascular interventions for people living with diabetes.
Speakers included Dr Tishanth Pathmarajah (RPH), Dr Robert Fitridge(SA), Dr Brian Kolski (USA), Dr Richard Alcock (RPH), Dr Toby Richards (FSH), Dr Jon Spiro (RPH), Prof. Patrice Mwipatayi, Dr Miguel Montero – Barker(USA), Professor Shirley Jansen(WA), Dr Rick Bond(FSH), Dr Kishore Sieunarine(RPH) and Giacomo Clerici (ITALY).
They spoke about different vascular surgery techniques, diabetes prevention and strategies for all companies to partner and work toward better health outcomes for diabetic foot patients.
Live diabetic foot lithotripsy and venous arterialisation surgeries were streamed from theatre at RPH and Dr Patrice Mwipatayi, and his colleagues, discussed the techniques utilised.
Friday 13 December was a smaller session held at the Clinical Training & Evaluation Centre (CTEC), The University of Western Australia. A hands-on cadaveric workshop on podiatric surgical techniques, this workshop provided the opportunity for discussion of techniques and strategies of a multidisciplinary approach to foot care.
