For people who are at risk of Type 2 Diabetes, stroke and heart disease

What is Let’s Prevent?

Let’s Prevent is a free program that will put you on the path to better health and wellbeing.

You will discover how to lose weight and keep it off – which will have a positive effect on your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels. Plus you will also be on track to prevent type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Let’s Prevent is an informal program that will get you thinking about the nuts and bolts of your body and the simple steps you can take to get it working at its very best.

What does it involve?

The program begins with a group education session. During this session,  two experienced health professionals will help you to build an understanding of your personal health, how you can improve it and how you can reduce your risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

We don’t leave you afterwards. For the next 12 months you will have access to face-to-face sessions, telephone support and e-newsletters that will provide you with hints and tips on building your healthier future. Plus, you can call on us any time you like if you have questions or want extra guidance.

Who can attend?

Let’s Prevent is running throughout the South West and is free for anyone who meets the eligibility criteria. To find out if you are eligible, complete our short questionnaire.

No time? Answer these quick questions.

  • Are you over 40?
  • Has your mum, dad, sister or brother ever been told they have type 2 diabetes or heart disease?
  • Has anyone in your immediate family ever had a stroke?
  • Do you spend a lot of your day sitting down?
  • Do you smoke?
  • Do you find it hard to get your five serves of vegetables every day?
  • Are you of Aboriginal, Maori, Torres Strait or Pacific Islander descent?
  • Do you have Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian or North African heritage?

If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you can sign up.

If you’re a woman, and you had diabetes while you were pregnant (gestational diabetes), you are also eligible to attend this program. In fact, we’re running special Let’s Prevent sessions just for women who have had gestational diabetes.
