Iranian researchers have determined that the supplementary intake of green tea may be beneficial for people living with type 2 diabetes.

The study consisted of an extensive systematic review and meta-analysis of over 700 studies that examined the effects of green tea extract on serum concentrations of high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride or total cholesterol in people living with type 2 diabetes.

After a comprehensive analysis of the eligible studies, they concluded long term supplementation of green tea extract (>800 mg/day) may improve lipid profile by reducing serum concentrations of triglycerides and total cholesterol.

The improvement in lipid profiles may, in turn, improve overall health and help to and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications.
