Grow your
Diabetes Village

It takes a village to live with diabetes.

Living with diabetes can change over time. Sometimes you need practical advice, emotional support, help with medication, education, specialist guidance or someone to talk things through with.

This National Diabetes Week, Diabetes WA is helping West Australians Grow Your Diabetes Village — with support, programs and services that can make life with diabetes easier.

When diabetes changes, support can too.
The Diabetes Village means more support by your side.

Start with one conversation

Growing your village can start with a single conversation.

Living with diabetes can bring questions at any time — about food, medication, how you are feeling, or what to ask your healthcare team.

The Diabetes WA Helpline connects you with diabetes health professionals who can talk things through, help you find the right support and work out the next step.

Take the next step

Be part of someone’s diabetes village

Supporting someone with diabetes does not mean having all the answers. Sometimes the most helpful thing is to listen, ask what support is useful and avoid judgement.

You can be part of someone’s diabetes village by:

  • listening without trying to fix everything
  • asking what kind of support they want
  • avoiding food policing or blame
  • learning how to recognise a hypo
  • understanding that diabetes can change over time
  • encouraging support without taking over
Share the campaign

Help more West Australians grow their diabetes village.

Partners, community organisations, schools, workplaces and health services can share the campaign by:

  • displaying campaign posters
  • sharing resources with staff, clients or community members
  • posting campaign tiles on social media
  • including the campaign message in newsletters
  • linking to this page
  • encouraging people to call the Diabetes WA Helpline

Share a resource. Start a conversation. Help someone grow their diabetes village.
