The Smarts series of programs is a range of short group education workshops designed to help you feel more confident to manage your diabetes the way you choose.

All of the Smarts programs are free for NDSS registrants and Diabetes WA members. Bookings are essential.

CarbSmart
Confused about carbs? No wonder, given the overwhelming number of diets and eating plans out there. This session will give you the facts on carbohydrates; which foods contain them, why you need them, and how you can choose which ones are better for you.

MedSmart
If you have type 2 diabetes, your doctor may prescribe medication to help you manage your blood glucose levels. This session gives you the opportunity to investigate what your medications are, why you need to take them as prescribed and suggests strategies for developing a medication regime that works for you.

For people living with type 2 diabetes.
MonitorSmart
Learning how to effectively monitor blood glucose levels and knowing what other health checks are recommended for you can be an important part of managing your diabetes. Meaningful and timely monitoring can give you insight into how different food choices, behaviours or events can affect your blood glucose levels, and ultimately, your long-term health. This session will explain the how, when and why of blood glucose monitoring and other health checks.

FootSmart
Your feet are made for walking- so let’s keep them healthy. This hands-on session will give you the skills and knowledge to develop your own daily footcare routine, choose the right footwear and how your health care team can help you to look after your feet so you are always putting your best foot forward.

ShopSmart Supermarket Tour
Do you know what is really going into your trolley? This two-hour supermarket tour will show you how to make sense of a product’s ingredients list and nutrition panel so you can make the best decisions for your health and wellbeing.
For people living with all types of diabetes.
ShopSmart
Want to make informed choices about the food you buy? This session will help you to gain confidence in decoding product information and nutrition panels. You’ll be given plenty of real life products to look at and compare, so next time you visit a supermarket you will be able to make the best decisions for your health and wellbeing
