Diabetes WA trains and supports health professionals to deliver evidence-based diabetes education programs in communities across Western Australia.
Our facilitator training gives you the skills, resources and ongoing support you need to help people build their knowledge, confidence and skills to manage diabetes.
Become a SMARTs facilitator
SMARTs are short, practical workshops that help people develop skills to manage different aspects of living with diabetes.
Facilitators can deliver CarbSMART, FootSMART, MedSMART and ShopSMART workshops in their local communities.

Training: Two days for new facilitators
Become a DESMOND facilitator
DESMOND is a structured self-management education program for people living with type 2 diabetes and their support people.
DESMOND facilitators complete initial training followed by a supported Quality Development pathway to become accredited DESMOND Educators.

Supporting you to deliver quality diabetes education
Becoming a facilitator is more than completing a training course. Diabetes WA provides ongoing support to help facilitators confidently deliver programs in their communities.
Depending on the program, this may include:
- facilitator training
- mentoring and quality development
- program resources and materials
- ongoing professional support
- assistance with program delivery and participant bookings
