Diabetes WA Helpline

The Diabetes WA Helpline is a free and confidential phone service for anyone in Western Australia who has questions about diabetes. Whether you live with diabetes or pre-diabetes, care for someone who does, or support people through your work, our team is here to listen and help.

Call 1300 001 880 (local call cost) between 8.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. You can also book a call at a time that suits you.

Who will you speak with?

Our Helpline is staffed by diabetes educators — these are health professionals such as nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, midwives and exercise physiologists who specialise in diabetes. Our diabetes educators will listen and provide practical advice tailored to your needs.

How we can help

You don’t need to have a specific question to call us. Our team can:

  • Explain diabetes and diabetes management
  • Talk through emotional, social, or practical challenges
  • Answer questions about food, blood glucose targets, medications, or technology
  • Point you towards other local support and services

Common questions include:

  • What can I eat now that I have diabetes? Can I eat carbohydrates?
  • What blood glucose levels should I be aiming for?
  • I am sick and my blood glucose levels keep rising, what can I do?
  • I am going on holidays, how can I store my insulin?

Less common questions include:

There are no silly questions and we take calls from anyone affected by diabetes in Western Australia, whether you’re living with diabetes yourself or you’re calling on behalf of someone else.

The Helpline provides general guidance and support and does not replace advice from your healthcare team. For personal medical advice, such as insulin dose adjustments, please consult your GP or diabetes care team.
