Feltman Training for Health Professionals
This teaching tool can be used by health professionals to help explain what happens in the body of someone who has diabetes.
Feltman is a life size felt mat, in the shape of a human body and shows the systems and organs relating to diabetes. It can be hung up (for example on a white board) or laid down on a flat surface.
The tool can be used with individuals and community groups, as a one-way demonstration or as a two-way interactive workshop. It is perfect for audiences which learn best in a visual way or for whom English is not their first language.
Feltman can be used to explain:
- What is diabetes?
- What are the risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes?
- What are some of the complications of diabetes?
- How can people with diabetes manage the condition?
- How can people at risk prevent type 2 diabetes?
Diabetes WA is offering training for individuals working with Aboriginal communities across WA on how to best utilise the Feltman resource.
All training sessions are hosted by Diabetes WA’s diabetes educators.
The Feltman training runs from 10.30 am – 1.00 pm.
