Managing diabetes doesn’t happen in isolation – it’s a team effort. This World Diabetes Day (14 November 2025), we’re focusing on how workplaces can play their part in supporting the wellbeing of people living with diabetes.
With almost 1 in 5 Australians either living with diabetes or at high risk, chances are someone in your workplace is managing the condition every day. Whether you’re a colleague, a manager, or part of a HR or safety team, you can make a real difference by creating an environment that supports good health, inclusion and understanding.
Be part of someone’s diabetes village at work
A supportive workplace can make managing diabetes easier and help reduce stress, burnout and stigma. Even small actions – like knowing the signs of low blood glucose (a ‘hypo’) or making time for regular breaks – can have a big impact.
We’ve created three new printable posters to help every workplace become more diabetes-friendly:
-
How to be a diabetes ally – simple ways to support colleagues with diabetes.
-
How to spot a hypo – learn the signs and what to do.
-
How to talk to someone with diabetes – start conversations that show understanding and respect.
Display these free posters in your lunchroom, office or staff noticeboard and help make your workplace part of the #DiabetesVillageWA.
Supporting WA workplaces and workers
For 60 years, Diabetes WA has been by the side of West Australians living with diabetes – offering education, support and resources to individuals and organisations. From our clinics in Subiaco, Maddington and Port Kennedy, to our telehealth and helpline services, we’re here to help every West Australian feel supported, wherever they work or live.
This World Diabetes Day, ask yourself: how can you be a diabetes ally at work?
Together, we can build healthier, more inclusive workplaces for everyone.
If you have any questions about managing diabetes at work – or about anything else to do with diabetes – call our free helpline on 1300 001 880 to speak with one of our diabetes educators today.
