You’re not on your own
Mental Health Support
If things feel heavy right now, there are people ready to listen and support you — today, and for as long as you need.
Living with diabetes can take a toll on how you feel, not just physically but emotionally. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or not quite yourself, reaching out is a strong and positive step. The services below range from immediate help in a crisis through to ongoing care and online tools. You don’t need to be in crisis to use them — choose what feels right for you, or speak with your GP or diabetes educator for guidance.

About the LISTEN Program
LISTEN is a free program that helps adults with diabetes work through diabetes-related stress and build coping skills, one-to-one with a diabetes health professional.
Finding individual support
If you’d like to talk to a professional regularly, your GP is a good place to start.
Ask your GP about a Mental Health Treatment Plan. If it’s right for you, this plan can connect you to psychology and counselling services that are subsidised under Medicare — meaning some or all of the cost is covered for a set number of sessions each year.
Medicare Mental Health is a free phone service that can help you find low-cost or no-cost mental health support near you. Call 1800 595 212 or visit medicarementalhealth.gov.au.
