About the program
Let’s Prevent is a free program that will put you on the path to better health and wellbeing. It’s not a fad diet or exercise regime.
It’s a health program that provides you with practice information and skills that will enable you to make simple, sustainable lifestyle changes.
Let’s Prevent starts off with a face-to-face session, where you will meet other people on their own health journey.
Here you will learn about the nuts and bolts of your body, and then set realistic goals that you can actually achieve (and feel good about).
We don’t leave you after the first session – you’ll have ongoing support via telephone sessions with one of our health professionals, and an opportunity to come back for a follow-up session.
Plus you’ll get practical tips from our monthly e-newsletter and you’ll be able to join our online community.
Many of our participants lose weight – on average participants lose 5.5kg sustained over four months. However, many have lost significantly more – some have lost more than 20kg.
70% of our participants report that they are more active after attending a session.
More than 55% of participants report they have made lasting improvements to their diet.

Let’s Prevent puts you in touch with other like-minded people in your community.
We don’t leave you after one session. Let’s Prevent provides ongoing telephone and online support for months after your first session.

Who is eligible
Let’s Prevent is currently being run in the Mid West and South West regions. If you live outside these areas you can sign up for Let’s Prevent Digital.
If you answer yes to more than one of these questions, you eligible to sign up:
- My Doctor has told me I have hight blood pressure or cholesterol
- I want to improve my lifestyle
- A relative or direct family member has type 2 diabetes or heart disease
- I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant
- I scored 12 or more on the Diabetes Risk Quiz

With increasing incidence of type 2 Diabetes everyday, we need to implement lifestyle changes early to prevent complications later on.

What is Let’s Prevent?
Let’s Prevent is a free program that will put you on the path to better health and wellbeing.
You will discover how to lose weight and keep it off – which will have a positive effect on your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels. Plus you will also be on track to prevent type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
What does it involve?
Let’s Prevent starts off with a face-to-face group session, where you will meet other people on their own health journey.
The session is delivered by two facilitators (qualified health professionals) who will talk you about how the body works. But this isn’t a lecture. This is an interactive session during which our facilitators will support you to better understand your personal health and the simple steps you can take to improve it.
Once you’ve developed this understanding our facilitators will support you in setting realistic health goals that you can actually achieve, and sustain. But – to be clear – they won’t set them for you. These goals are your choice because we know that, when it comes to your health and lifestyle, you’re the expert.
We don’t leave you there! After the first session you’ll have continued support and guidance from our health professionals via regular telephone sessions and an opportunity to come back for a follow-up session. You’ll also get practical tips from our monthly e-newsletter and you’ll able to join our growing Let’s Prevent online community.
Who can attend Let’s Prevent?
Let’s Prevent sessions are currently being made available to those who live in the Mid West and South West regions of Western Australia.
It is free for anyone who meets the eligibility criteria. To find out if you are eligible, complete our short questionnaire.

- Has your mum, dad, sister or brother ever been told they have type 2 diabetes or heart disease?
- Has anyone in your immediate family ever had a stroke?
- Do you spend a lot of your day sitting down?
- Do you smoke?
- Do you find it hard to get your five serves of vegetables every day?
- Are you of Aboriginal, Maori, Torres Strait or Pacific Islander descent?
- Do you have Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian or North African heritage?
If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you can sign up.
If you’re a woman, and you had diabetes while you were pregnant (gestational diabetes), you can also register for this program.
